Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 03, 2013

In July of this year, the Mesothelioma Victims Center received a call from one distraught wife of a diagnosed victim of mesothelioma in Northern California. She commented that, "My husband served as gunners mate on a US Navy destroyer during the Vietnam war. While serving for his country on this ship, the vessel was involved in day and night fire missions to protect US forces inland. During the Tet offensive in 1968, his destroyer was shelling hostile forces. He did this for several weeks, almost 24 hours per day. At his battle station he was required to wear gloves made of asbestos, and an asbestos vest as these were the traditional pieces of gear that kept him safe from physical harm. He never thought it would do him any long term damage."

The Mesothelioma Victims Center comments, "Combat ships generally undergo engine room maintenance before deployment. This particular sailor possibly came in contact with asbestos twice. The first is definite contact while wearing protective gear and the second possibly came during the engine room overhaul. After speaking with his wife about his time in the Navy, we arrived at the conclusion that he sternly felt submitting a mesothelioma compensation claim would be unpatriotic to the country he served so many years before."

After nearly a decade of working with diagnosed victims of mesothelioma who were exposed to asbestos while serving in the US Navy, the center is convinced many never file a compensation claim because like the previously mentioned veteran, they feel it is unpatriotic. The Mesothelioma Victims Center has heard this same sentiment from countless veterans that pride themselves on having intestinal fortitude and unquestioned faith in the US Navy and we believe this act of unbridled patriotism costs victims or family members of mesothelioma hundreds of thousands, possibly even millions of dollars each year as the CDC lists shipyards and other maritime industries as culprit for asbestos exposure.

The center goes on to say, "In this instance we were so very fortunate the victim's wife called us. We were able to best explain how a mesothelioma compensation claim works. A premier mesothelioma attorney was sent to meet with the victim in their home and concluded that the mesothelioma claim settlement she brought forth for her husband would amount to a dollar figure somewhere in the millions. We really do want every diagnosed victim of mesothelioma or their family members to call us at 866-714-6466, because we are incredibly passionate about making certain all diagnosed victims get the best possible compensation."

The Mesothelioma Victims Center says, "A large percentage of diagnosed victims of mesothelioma are US Navy Veterans. These sailors were exposed to asbestos while serving in the US Navy. Based on conversations we've had over the years, many diagnosed victims of mesothelioma, or their family members have the incorrect notion that a mesothelioma compensation claim involves the US Navy. The Mesothelioma Victims Center wants to put that notion to rest one case at a time. If a US Navy Veteran has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, we would like to carefully explain how the claims process works and suggest the most skilled mesothelioma compensation claims attorneys we have that consistently get the best compensation settlements for the victims they represent."

Although the use of asbestos is now heavily regulated and controlled, the CDC reports that mesothelioma remains latent in the body for a long period of time and usually manifests itself 20-40 years after exposure. The top seven states with the highest rates of mesothelioma diagnoses are Maine, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New Jersey, Florida, Wyoming, and Washington. Of these seven states, four of them are homes to major US Navy bases or shipyards. However, a diagnosis can occur in any state. The Mesothelioma Victims Center says, "We receive calls from diagnosed victims of mesothelioma in all states, with the greatest frequency in Ohio, California, Michigan, Idaho, and Texas." http://MesotheliomaVictimsCenter.Com

The Mesothelioma Victims Center says, "The CDC also provides an extremely high quality web site that carefully explains asbestos exposure, and mesothelioma. The web site states, "In the United States, an estimated 27 million workers were exposed to aerosolized asbestos fibers between 1940 and 1979." http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/csem/csem.asp?csem=4&po=7
