An image of a house showing the hidden dangers of asbestos has been projected on to a screen at Leicester railway station.

The aim was to raise awareness of the dangers of the substance, which causes the lung cancer mesothelioma.

Joanne Gordon, from the team, said: "The event went very well. The half-size house model looked impressive and commuters were taking notice and picking up the leaflets.

"We have received one call today from a young man renovating a house and our information alerted him to be aware that the floor tiles in the kitchen could be asbestos."

The model comprises an image of a house projected on to a screen and people are invited to touch a computer screen to search the house to find out information about where asbestos may be contained and what they should do if they suspect that their home may contain asbestos products.

Asbestos was commonly used between the 1930s and 1980s. It was banned in the year 2000.
