Redondo Beach, California - The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), a nonprofit with headquarters in Southern California, has released a mobile app that offers easy access to tips for avoiding asbestos exposure and connects users to news about treatment for mesothelioma. The app, which is available on iTunes, promotes the ADAO’s mission of “Education, Advocacy and Community” for those researching or affected by mesothelioma.

One of the major features of the app is a direct dial to three government agencies: the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). This makes it simple to request information and, perhaps more importantly, to report a problem. The ability to immediately access these agencies’ Web sites helps the user bypass the complexities of the health care system, which may lead to greater knowledge among the public and better reportage when an issue arises.

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization is the largest independent asbestos victims’ organization in the country. Annual conferences are held to bring together experts and victims of asbestos exposure, and the mobile app is the organization’s latest initiative in support of the community. The ADAO was founded in 2004.

Asbestos exposure is the primary cause of mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer that affects the lungs and abdomen. There is no known cure of mesothelioma, which makes prevention and early treatment paramount to combating the disease. The ADAO’s mobile app can help distribute the necessary knowledge by providing an on-the-go resource to its users.
