As per a new research conducted at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania have suggested that the predictive power of a particular group of overlooked lymph nodes better known as the posterior intercostal lymph nodes can definitely serve as a better tool that help to treat patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma. According to the researchers they have found lymph nodes that hold the host essentially all cancers, also in mesothelioma. The presence or non-presence of metastatic cancer cells in lymph nodes can affect the prognosis. This further dictates proper treatment strategy. Dr. Friedberg one of the researchers explains, “I am unaware of any other group that is sampling these nodes. They are not currently part of the staging system for mesothelioma, or any other cancer for that matter. What we have shown here is that even though these lymph nodes are not described in relation to this cancer, they are highly significant.”
