Last week, MesotheliomaHelp published information regarding the upcoming Living Well With Cancer conference to be held in August. Dr. Jeremy Geffen will be presenting information about his Seven Levels of Healing program. Below is information about that program.

A diagnosis of mesothelioma, or any cancer, can leave patients and their family reeling from the news. Not only is the disease physically challenging, but it can also take a toll on the patients and their families’ emotional well-being. Limiting stress and focusing on the treatment during this time is critical to aiding in the patient’s recovery. According to the Seven Levels of Healing program designer Dr. Jeremy Geffen, the program is designed to help do just that.

Understanding mesothelioma, an aggressive form of cancer primarily caused by exposure to airborne asbestos fibers, can be overwhelming. Having a step-by-step program that “addresses every aspect of the healing journey and provides guidance, wisdom, and clear directions for finding meaning, hope, and practical solutions” can ease the burden and give focus to the patient.

Designed by Geffen, an oncologist and author of The Journey Through Cancer: Healing and Transforming the Whole Person, and offered through Caring4Cancer, the Seven Levels of Healing is a program to help patients of any type of cancer navigate through the medical information, handle mental and physical changes, understand nutritional needs, and explore their feelings as they deal with the unknowns of cancer and their life.

The Seven Levels:

  • Level 1: Education and Information

  • Level 2: Connections with Others

  • Level 3: The Body as Garden

  • Level 4: Emotional Healing

  • Level 5: Nature of Mind

  • Level 7: Nature of Spirit

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer, and the average survival time varies from 4 – 18 months after diagnosis. Currently, there is no known cure for mesothelioma, although it can be treated with varying degrees of success through the use of surgical procedures, chemotherapy and radiation. With such a grim prognosis, finding a “roadmap” of next steps for working through all of the associated issues may be beneficial to some patients.
